Hearthstone releases on iPad in Australia, New Zealand and Canada

The Hearthstone iPad roll-out has begun! The game is live on the app store in Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Other regions of the world are "coming soon" with the reason given in the official blog being as follows:
Blizzard
Launching Hearthstone in a limited set of countries allows us to focus on the end-to-end player experience and make sure it's awesome before we move on to the rest of the world. If you don't live in Australia, Canada, or New Zealand, you don't have much longer to wait to get your hands on Hearthstone for iPad-Murloc Scout's honor.

It's also worth noting that everything is shared across all devices, so your collection linked with your account on your PC or Mac will be available on your iPad too. This is really exciting for people in those territories, and the rest of us will look forward to it landing on our local app stores soon.

Hit the break for the full blog post.

Safari 7.0.3 Brings New Notifications Preference, Support for Generic Top-Level Domains, Fixes

Following the rollout of updates to iWork for iOS, OS X, and iCloud.com, Apple released version 7.0.3 of its Safari browser today. The update, available in Software Update through the Mac App Store, brings a new preference in the app’s Notifications settings that allows users to turn off prompts for website notifications (Note: MacStories uses Safari push notifications). In previous versions of Safari, users could only allow or deny notifications after interacting with a prompt that asked for permissions to display push notifications; now, Safari can skip that prompt entirely if the preference is turned off.

Version 7.0.3 also adds support for new generic top-level domains (which include new entries such as .ceo, .sexy, and .shop) that are loaded as websites by Safari; previously, Safari couldn’t recognize the recently launched generic top-level domains, and redirected them to standard web searches.

In terms of bug fixes, Safari 7.0.3 improves credit card autofill, fixes a bug that could stop website notifications from being displayed, and resolves an address bar bug that loaded webpages or web searches before pressing the Return key.

Safari 7.0.3 is available in Software Update.

CloudMagic for iPad: Blazing Fast Search for All Your Cloud Data

CloudMagic icon

Search on the iPad is one of those subjects I don’t think about much, except of course when I really need to find an email or document – and then my thoughts generally just extend to being disappointed with incomplete results or the need to search in multiple places, because just about all my essential data is held in various separate cloud services.

The CloudMagic app offers a fantastic solution for finding data very easily on the iPad – across a great range of cloud services. It supports iCloud, Dropbox, Evernote, Gmail, Google Contacts and Calendar, Google Drive, Google Apps, Box, SkyDrive, Exchange, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter, Office 365 and quite a few more popular services.

Oh, and did I mention that it’s ridiculously fast too? It is – it starts showing results as you type and it returns full, categorized results just about instantly when you finish entering a search...

Google to Shut Down Google Reader

6 Comments and 13 Shares

Alan Green, on the Google Reader Blog:

We have just announced on the Official Google Blog that we will soon retire Google Reader (the actual date is July 1, 2013). We know Reader has a devoted following who will be very sad to see it go. We’re sad too.

There are two simple reasons for this: usage of Google Reader has declined, and as a company we’re pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience.

Brent Simmons (who knows a thing or two about feed readers), one month ago:

Part of learning to focus is learning how to shut things down. Google has done well at that — but I’m surprised that Google Reader hasn’t been shut down yet. Better a clean shut-down than an ungraceful end.
